A Good Teacher is.........

                It has been 15 years since I got my first formal education in my life. Since that I have met many kinds of educators, either teachers or lectures. They have different teaching way each others. They also brought their own characteristic to the class. Those differences make me interested in every class I joined because in each class, I can feel the different atmosphere.

                I used to have some really good teachers in my school. They always able to bring a great atmosphere to the class. It made students learn happily. I also used to have some not good teachers. They bring a not enjoyable atmosphere for studying to the class somehow. Based on that, I realized that the atmosphere of the class and the spirit of the student for learning are depending to the teacher.

                Every teacher is different. They have their own way for teaching. How does it influence students depends on the way of the teacher deliver their teaching. Any kind of teaching way which is being used by the teacher, if they know how the style of students is, and try to deliver their teaching based on that, it will makes the learning atmosphere in the class becomes great, vice versa.

                Now, in my college I have many great lectures. They use different way of teaching, but each of them always able to give us a great atmosphere for learning. They are a great model for me as a candidate of teachers. The way they teach us is cool. They try to understand the style of students and combine it to their teaching way.

                I’m as the candidate of new generation in this 21^st century will do much better than my lectures here. I have to find my own teaching way that can bring my students into a great learning atmosphere. It’s an interesting challenge for me.

Differences are Beautiful

            I am a Javanese and Moslem boy which means it makes me as the majority in this country. Being the majority makes me get used of facing the same people of tribe and religion almost all the times. When I came to new environment, my college, I meet many different people from the different tribe and religion as me. That was my first experience of facing that many different people in my life. I was shocking at first because their view of this life is different with me. I used to feel they were strange. In my mindset I ensure myself that I was the most correct one over there.

            As the time goes by, slowly I realized a lot of things about differences. I start to washed away my thinking about that I am the most correct person with the most correct point of view of this life. I realized that actually those differences are unique. The deeper I understand those things, the more interesting it is. There is no better or worse belief in this life. Each belief give the best for its adherent. No matter what it is, every belief always bans the adherent to the bad things and sues them to do the good one. So, out of the name of the belief, still all of them are correct for their own adherents.

            Now, I have many kinds of friends. They are Chinese, Sundanese, Palembangnese, Christian, Hindu, and many others. I don’t make a big deal about what they believe and how this live should be for them. Out of those things, still they are my friend. I have a new view of facing differences that actually in this life human is divided just in two ways, the god one who always try to do the good things for others, and the bad one who always try to do the bad things for others.

In this third semester I have a new course namely Humanistic Studies. When I heard the name of this course, the first thing that came to my mind is that I will learn about human and the way they live their life. I expect in this course I will learn how to be able to understand others including their differences and similarities. Not only about that, I also expected I will learn how to face those things much more wisely.

Teaching Using Technology

            This is my reflection journal about article “Technology and Second Language Teaching” which is wrote by Mark and Carla Meskill.

            The first thing which came up in my mind when my lecture in this course asked about what I expected about the course is we will learn a Hi-Tech technology that can be used for teaching in language teaching. I though when we are talking about technology means that we are talking about digital and modern stuffs in this 21^st century. After reading this article, I found out that technology is not always about a Hi-Tech things from this century. People already used something that they called technology since long time ago. There are a lot kinds of technology which can be used in language teaching. Each of them have their own strength and weakness. It depends on the usage and the purpose of using each of them in the classroom. These technologies are like a trend, come and go by the time. They are changing and changing to be better and better. Technology is challenging, because dealing with it means you have to deal with it’s fast development. That is why the developing of technology should be followed by the developing of the human resource it self. A good classroom management is not depends on the technology which is used, it is depends on how the activities in that classroom is settled toward that technology. However, technology is not everything in learning and teaching process. Whenever you can use technology, use it, but you do not have to force your self to use in every single class you have.
